Matcha bowls are typically wide and shallow, allowing for easy whisking of the matcha powder with a bamboo whisk (chasen). The broad surface area also aids in appreciating the vibrant green color of the frothy matcha.  The shape of the rim and foot of the bowl can affect how the tea is sipped and held.
